Dr. Rick Creed offers his athletes the best of a lifetime of experience

BRASELTON, Ga. — Coach Rick Creed has been coaching boys and girls in high school for 29 years. Creed’s work in diving and swimming began in 1981 at Parkview High School in Gwinnett County and now extends to his tenure with the Mill Creek Swim and Dive team.

The coach prepared the athletes for 13 consecutive years. In that time, Creed was named Coach of the Year after going through the swim season in 2002.

Dr. Rick Creed has also gained recognition as one of the best swim coaches for boys in Georgia. Creed brought young athletes to the 100- breaststroke record in 2002, and the following year, the team set a milestone of 200 breaststrokes.

Creed’s other honors as a swim coach are when in 1995, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 he helped coach state championships teams with Redan High School and later at Stone Mountain High School.

Creed also maintains a record for participating in the Gwinnett County State Championship from 1993 to 2003 with each school under his guidance.

With such a storied profile, Dr. Creed has collected six-county coach of the year titles in Georgia. But, with over 40 years of experience in water sports, the coach has stayed at Mill Creek to enjoy the rest of his retirement.

Dr. Creed guides the children of Mill Creek alongside his wife, who has also represented various swim teams. Both legendary coaches have two daughters who compare their same tunings for swimming.

But the coach has as assistant Laurel Christopher, who helped Mill Creek reach the state’s last four competitions. Coach Christopher specializes in sprinting freestyle, dryland training, and getting the best out of the student-athlete. She is looking forward to another great season with the Hawks Swim & Dive team. She specializes in bringing out the best in each athlete as well as reinforcing a speed freestyle.

Mill Creek is preparing for a new swimming and diving season to take the gold on Oct. 11. The whole month will be coordinated by general practices where the coaching staff will show the youth athletes how to be true winners.

Dr. Creed’s swimming program has been a success since he first coached the children. The coach will not get bored of practicing this profession that has captivated him. This may be the last year in Mill Creek for this beloved coach in his sixties.
