Mill Creek High School’s dance team becomes the first team to win three state titles in a row

BRASELTON, Ga. — With dances, jumps, and pirouettes, the football or basketball games in Mill Creek are better for fans thanks to the Mill Creek High School dance team. In almost every school in Georgia, a dance group represents the school and does their best to pump up the audience. With Mill Creek, the dancers have reached another level by winning several competitions in their category.

The year 2021 has succeeded for Mill Creek High School, not only for the Eagles football team who carry a perfect record, but also for the young cheerleaders who competed in the state dance championship. The dancers took home the gold with great determination, scoring a third consecutive year of victory in the State Dance competition.

The school’s dance team was founded in 2006; although it had a little relevant beginning, the team gained priority since 2009 when Suzzane Muck was chosen as coach. With Muck’s guidance, Mill Creek team dance has won four state championships, including 2012, 2019, 2020, and this year’s season.

The dance coach clarifies that the season was very tough; some of her athletes got sick and replaced at the last minute. However, the dance competition ended with good results because Mill Creek brought in a new trophy.

The dance team participated in mid-February, where they won the Pom and Jazz category. Mill Creek competed against South Forsyth in the final round, where they won. The team had the highest mark in the hip-hop category.

In this competition, the groups from Collins Hill, Peachtree Ridge, Brookwood, North Gwinnett, Mountain View, Greater Atlanta Christian, and Parkview were also present to represent Georgia. What is peculiar is that the dance competitions were held virtually due to the pandemic.

Mill Creek has become the first and only cheerleading team to have been crowned in the Georgia state championship for three years in a row. The dance team had to start the fall season, but all those performances were postponed because of the pandemic. The cheerleaders must wait until November to train and face a new dance season in February 2022.

The Mill Creek coach bets on a fourth victory in the next state championship; in this way, the cheerleading team would set a record. Mill Creek will compete in a new dance season with amateur gymnasts like Acacia Whyte and rookies like Claudia Russell, who gave a wonderful performance in February.
