Former SeattleU basketball player Talisa Rhea promoted to general manager Seattle Storm
SEATTLE — Talisa Rhea is an ardent lover of basketball. She not only enjoys playing it but also has a complete grip over her skills. She has also played overseas. She was a standout player at Oregon State University and later Seattle University. Due to her great game and talent, she has been selected as general manager of one of the top teams of the WNBA, the Seattle Storm.
Rhea started as an intern on the WNBA team. She was working to obtain her master’s degree in sports management from the University of Illinois at that time. The Storm are no doubt a top team because they are now four-time champions.
“I am grateful for this promotion within the Storm organization,” she said in the team’s press release. “I feel fortunate to have experienced the Storm’s championship culture for the past six seasons and I look forward to leading our team in the pursuit of sustained excellence.”
She has been so hardworking that she has been readily promoted always. Her most recent promotion to general manager occurred just two days before the WNBA draft.
“I worked with our coaching staff, former general manager and our current CEO/team president to make sure we were prepared going into and ready to execute our plan to add valuable pieces to our roster,” she told her alma mater Seattle University.
The responsibilities that Rhea have as a general manager are college scouting, testing the talent and managing the competitive roster. She also manages the coaches. She also has to maintain a positive image as a representative of the Storm organization. She must look after all the staff operations and carry out necessary measures to keep it balanced. Rhea praises the people she is surrounded by.
“I get to work with some of the best athletes in the world, and I am fortunate to be the part of such an incredible organization which performs at a championship level, on and off the court,” she said.
Rhea builds strong relationships with the athletes she works with because she believes understanding each other is the key to success. Rhea also believes that if you love sports, there are many ways to be part of it. What she is doing is something close to her heart because she loves being around sports.
