Oakville Blue Devils U16 Team wins the 2021 Ontario Cup

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO — The Oakville Blue Devils U16 defeated Oshawa DeRo U16 soccer squad 3-1 for the provincial championship final. The game was played on a sunny Saturday afternoon on Sept. 18, 2021, at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

The Ontario Cup 2021 ran for the 105th time with nearly 300 teams competing out across the province. Before the final, Oshawa DeRo and Blue Devils had faced each other in the opening round of the provincial championship. The opening round game ended with the victory from Blue Devils with a 1-0 score.

When both teams met again for the title game, Blue Devils won the Ontario Cup Title. The first goal was scored by DeRo’s Joshua Geddes, who had also scored in the semifinal against Scarborough. After going down 1-0 by Geddes in the 26th minute, Blue Devils got ahead with Patrick Vani scoring a pair, an open net opportunity, and a penalty, in the 32nd and the 53rd minute. The final touch was from Sam Milward, whose left-footed shot found the back of the net, scoring the final goal for Blue Devils at the 63rd minute.
