Former White Plains star Sean Kilpatrick continues basketball journey overseas

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (BVM) — It’s been over a decade since White Plains alum Sean Kilpatrick stepped on the Tigers’ home basketball court for the last time. Since then, Kilpatrick has enjoyed a basketball journey that has taken him worldwide, but he still remembers just where it all began.

The 6-foot-4 guard would star on the basketball court during his time in Westchester County, averaging 28.4 points, seven rebounds, and six assists throughout his career at White Plains High School. Kilpatrick would go on to finish as the second-leading scorer in Tigers’ history, while also becoming a three-time all-state, all-section, all-league, and all-county selection during his four-year prep career.

Since those days, Kilpatrick has been busy, finding opportunities professionally wherever he can fit in.

After a standout career at the University of Cincinnati that would end with the guard becoming the second all-time leading scorer in program history, Kilpatrick would face adversity professionally becoming an undrafted free agent after the 2014 NBA Draft.

After signing on with the Philadelphia 76ers, Kilpatrick had to overcome a constant shuttle from the G-League to the NBA early in his career. Following stints with the Santa Cruz Warriors and Delaware 87ers, the Yonkers native would maintain a more steady NBA role after the 2016 season.

The title of “undrafted” has become a motto for the longtime professional who now uses the tag as motivation. Following a run in the G-League, Kilpatrick would enjoy a longer stint at the highest level contributing in different roles during his time with the Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers and the Chicago Bulls.

During Kilpatrick’s time with the Milwaukee Bucks, the former White Plains standout would renew his connection to the area, receiving the honor as the first-ever basketball player in Tigers’ history to have their jersey retired with his No. 23.

After the multi-year NBA run, his time in the league would hit a standstill. Following the 2018 season, Kilpatrick would have to open up his options elsewhere, as he transitioned to a new challenge within the game of basketball.

The former Tigers star would bring his game overseas, finding different chances in leagues across Europe. Beginning in Greece, Kilpatrick has made stops in Montenegro, Turkey, Spain, and Israel. The well-traveled professional is set to play for Hapoel Jerusalem where he joins former NBA big man Thon Maker.

“[Kilpatrick] is a player with proven abilities at the highest levels,” Hapoel Jerusalem head coach Oren Amiel said. “He is an experienced, tough player, and gifted scorer.”

Now in his third year overseas, Kilpatrick has made sure to bring his undrafted mentality wherever the sport takes him. A return to the States could still be in the future but even if the opportunity doesn’t present itself, Kilpatrick’s career on the court will always be remembered by those in Westchester County.
