Ottawa Senators to host full capacity arena at home opener against Toronto

OTTAWA, Ontario — Starting today, the Ottawa Senators and other major indoor sports teams are now able to play in front of full capacity arenas.

Ontario Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, announced on Sept. 25 that sports arena restrictions will be lifted. As of 12:01 a.m. today, these restrictions were lifted to increase previous indoor restrictions from 10,000 attendees or 50% capacity (whichever is less) to 100% capacity.

“As we continue to see more Ontarians roll up their sleeves with over 22 million doses administered, our government is cautiously lifting capacity limits in select settings where we know proof of vaccination requirements are providing an added layer of protection to Ontarians,” the Ontario minister of health said.

The Senators announced Friday that they are eager to welcome 18,652 fans for their home opener against Toronto at the Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday.

For continued collective safety, attendees over the age of 12 will need to provide proof of vaccination and all attendees will be required to wear a face covering at all times, except when eating or drinking. Restrictions at restaurants within the centre will remain the same at reduced capacity.
