BVM Sports Friday night five: WIAA football top 5 performers of Week 8

MILTON, Wis. (BVM) — Week 8 of the WIAA high school football season did not disappoint as teams across the state battled for playoff berths and conference titles. Here are five of the best performances from last Friday:

1. Zack Bothun, senior running back, Milton high school
It was the Zack Bothun show last week when Milton went on the road to play Oregon. The senior Redhawk had five touchdowns and a two-point conversion as Milton beat Oregon 38-20. Bothun also had 346 yards on 31 rushing attempts, including a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

2. Peter Stapleton, junior linebacker, Kenosha St. Joseph
One of Wisconsin’s leaders in sacks had another impressive game. Peter Stapleton made his presence known on Friday against Racine Lutheran. The junior linebacker had five tackles including three solo tackles, one tackle for loss and three sacks for the Lancers. Stapleton also forced a fumble as Kenosha St. Joseph beat Racine Lutheran 28-7 to give the Lancers sole ownership of first place in the Midwest Classic Conference.

3. Brayden Wiczek, junior quarterback, Lakeland Union high school
It was a barn burner in Lakeland last Friday night as the T-Birds beat Ashland 60-40. Even though it was senior-night as well as homecoming night, it was junior quarterback Brayden Wiczek who stole the show. Wiczek was deadly through the air, going 29-of-42 for 429 yards and five touchdowns but also found a way to score two more touchdowns on the ground.

4. Gavin Jarchow, senior wide receiver, Cumberland high school
Gavin Jarchow could not be stopped last Friday night when he and the Beavers went against Bloomer. Jarchow played great on the defensive side of the ball racking up 13 tackles with six of those being solo tackles and one tackle for loss, but it was his work as a wide receiver that stood out. The senior wideout had 171 yards, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion on 18 receptions as Cumberlan beat Bloomer 46-28.

5. Trevor Garski, senior quarterback, Mosinee high school
The Mosinee Indians scored early and often against Medford last Friday, in large part because of Trevor Garski. The senior quarterback threw six touchdowns to go along with his 327 yards on an impressive completion rate going 27-of-35. Mosinee beat Medford 41-14.
