Sarnia Legionnaires aim for the top with new team lineup

SARNIA, Ontario — The Sarnia Legionnaires are on the fast track to win big during this season’s Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. After their 2020-21 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team is hoping to have a lot of success with their new team lineup in the 2021-22 season.

Reed Stauffer and Bradley Slegers are returning to the team with new rookies Carter Barron, Jake MacLean, Owen MacDonald and Wes Brooks. Legionnaires team veterans include Wil O’Leary-DiLosa, Jett Morningstar and Brayden Krueger as forward corps. Joining them are Austin Harper, Bradyn Santavy, Brayden DeGelas, Cam Lightfoot, Dylan Dupuis, Jaxon Priddle, Joel Verspeeten, Ryan Richardson, Ryder Nienhuis and Ty Moffatt. The team’s goalie combo includes Nolan DeKoning, veteran team goalie, and Tiago Rocha, former player for the Chatham Maroons and Pelham Panthers.

“(General manager) Tom Norris has done a great job of trying to put a team together in the midst of this challenge.” head coach Derek Di Muzio said. “We can see them already getting better and faster in our practice sessions. We just hope that continues. Our practices have been really good. Guys want to be coached and they’re willing to be vulnerable and learn. You can see their attention to detail and their practice habits are getting better and better. I can see that translating into game success.”
