Logan Doust, the Moose Jaw Warriors’ finest center

MOOSE JAW, Saskatchewan — One of the reasons why the Moose Jaw Warriors will be one of the most challenging teams to beat this season will be because of the likes of Logan Doust.

Centers have a way of controlling the pace of every game, and fans know that the Moose Jaw Warriors got the best center. Doust has gradually grown to be one of the finest centers in the Western Hockey League since joining the club in the 2019-20 season.

Doust, who recently banged an assist in the 2021-22 season, is one player that will pose trouble to any opponent in the field of play. Born in North Vancouver, British Columbia on April 27, 2001, Doust spent some time with the North Shore WC U15 A1 in the Pacific Coast Bantam Hockey League.

But he was not visible in the eyes of many hockey lovers until he moved to Vancouver NW Giant U18 in the British Columbia Elite Hockey League in the 2016-17 season. In Doust’s first season with the Giants, he made an average of a goal’s contribution in every game he played. He played 26 games, scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists.

He was ranked seventh among players with the highest total points. Every player who ranked higher than him played 40 games except for Jack Graham, who played 34 games. With 26 total points in 26 games, Doust soon became one of the best players in the league. What a good start for the newcomer. He also provided three assists during the playoffs in the same season.

In the 2017-18 season, he played 20 games, scored six goals and provided 10 assists. He then had a short spell with the Saskatoon Blades in the Western Hockey League and the Vernon Vipers in the British Columbia Elite Hockey League, where he played three league games and one playoff game for the teams, respectively.

Doust moved permanently to the Western Hockey League, where he joined the Victoria Royals. He immediately became a regular there, playing 60 games. He scored six goals and provided two assists. He also played 10 games in the playoff and provided three assists.

In his second season, he played 36 games, scored two goals, and provided seven assists. He joined the Moose Jaw Warriors for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, where he played 26 games, scored seven goals, and provided four assists.

In his first full season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, the talented center played 19 games, scored two goals and provided four assists. One thing that Doust has always done during games is always to maintain control of each game.

Although not a seasoned scorer or an assist provider like some players, he can’t be in the field playing, and you would not feel his impact on the game.

Doust, speaking about his style of play and why he makes so much impact in his games, said, “I play a two-way game, I was used a lot on the penalty kill in Victoria, I played a checking…, but I definitely like to chip in offensively as well.”

In his four preseason games in 2021, he scored one goal and provided one assist. In the 2021-22 regular season, he has recorded an assist in just two games played and, most importantly, he is still making an impact in every game he plays with the Moose Jaw Warriors.
