Love or hate the sport, most diehard football fans would rather fight than switch

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach boasts 30 football teams, so there isn’t a lack of that sport here: high school, college, and professional teams. While one might think, “Florida doesn’t have any football, it’s too hot there.” Think again, and Google “Daytona Beach FL football teams”

A few of the football teams in Daytona Beach include: the Daytona Thunderbirds, the Daytona Waverunners women’s touch football, the Daytona Elite, the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and the Stars Football League.

In Daytona Beach, football ranks right up there. Many people living around the area hail from other parts of the United States, so it’s reasonable they might think, “Fall means football.” And it does to many.

Would anyone think of sports like football in this heat? Many people apparently, and their reasons are legitimate. As weather starts to get cooler; soon it will be fine for watching any sport, particularly football.

But why do football fans love it so much? It’s a love for watching the game of football. It’s the joy of seeing 22 men competing to throw an oblong shaped pigskin ball over a goal line. It’s the fun of those same 22 men fall on top of each other to keep that pigskin from moving another millimeter. Fans might feel bad for the guys on the bottom of the bunch, but they seem unscathed most times.

Fans love to be there watching the game, regardless of the weather. In the northern states, when temps drop far enough, icicles may form and snow might fall any moment. Still those intrepid 22 men out there on the gridiron will never be deterred.

People who have just been to a game; often like to go somewhere afterward to rehash it. That almost equals seeing it live, especially when you have been there.

Those reluctant football watchers, will watch when others chose. Sometimes its non-violent peace-loving musicians who went to every football rally and game with the band, cheered wildly when everyone else did, and hoped nobody noticed they really weren’t into it.

Maybe they liked football more than they realized?

One the other hand, some love football. Some played football in high school or even college. Some coached football. Some watch football games on TV every weekend and recorded those games to watch whenever he wanted and still others will talk about football anytime, anywhere, with anyone.

The pre and after-game parties are fun. Even though the game of football looks easy, the football can’t always be seen. Fans are told that’s the point.

Can anyone say why they have such a great admiration for football? Perhaps naysayers could talk about the pros and cons of the game with in-depth gridiron backers to see why they love it, and maybe understand why the other side does not. What a conversation that would be.
