Amanda Kreitler: Webster’s new cheerleading coach

ST. LOUIS — It’s a new beginning for Webster University’s cheerleading program.

On October 15, Webster University’s Athletic Director, Scott Kilgallon, announced that the university had hired Amanda Kreitler to be the next Head Competitive Cheerleading Coach in succession of Justin Barton.

“We are excited to have Amanda serve as our next Competitive Cheer Coach and look forward to working with her and Assistant Coach Alexis Hoffman to build upon the great work of Former Coach Justin Barton,” Kilgallon said.

And Kreitler is certainly qualified for this position, having quite a solid reputation for cheerleading and a strong background in athletics.

Kreitler went to Webster Groves High School, which is where she started her career in cheerleading. Following her graduation from Webster High, she would continue her journey as a cheerleader. Attending the University of Missouri-St. Louis, she was instrumental in the creation of the school’s cheer team as one of the founding members.

Kreitler graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Following graduation at UMSL, she would continue her schooling at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. There, she earned a Master of Science in Education and Kinesiology, carving out her path to become a coach.

Her resume only grew stronger from there, as in 2010, Kreitler would go on to become a self-employed Certified Personal Trainer. She also has worked as a personal trainer at the Lift for Life Academy in downtown St. Louis, as well as several other St. Louis area fitness centers.

In 2012, she became an NGA Pro-Figure Athlete. She has been a fitness competitor ever since then, earning certifications for Sports Nutrition for Performance and Health, Pre and Post Natal Fitness, and CPR and AED.

Not only is Kreitler a Certified Personal Trainer. She is also a Certified Health and Wellness Coach. She joins Webster University’s athletic staff on the heels of a two-year tenure as Brentwood High School’s Head Cheerleading Coach in 2018 and 2019.

“Amanda’s background as a former collegiate cheerleader, coach, and personal fitness trainer will be instrumental in the development of our program,” added Kilgallon. “We are excited to have Amanda join our staff.”

Her great experience and background as a coach and fitness trainer have led her to this moment, with a chance to impress her knowledge of fitness and cheerleading upon Webster University’s cheer squad.

“I am excited and honored to be selected as the new Head Cheerleading Coach at Webster University,” she said. “Cheerleading is an important, necessary component in schools and athletic programs. I look forward to continuing and building upon a really great program and adding to the Webster legacy. I would like to thank Scott Kilgallon for the opportunity to coach this amazing team.

Kreitler wants to encourage all Webster students to show up to games and support the Webster cheerleaders. Replacing Justin Barton will be a tall task and she will have some big shoes to fill, but she looks to raise awareness to cheerleading and show why it is a necessary piece of athletics.

And now with this new opportunity, Kreitler has a chance to continue building her legacy. Her certifications and background as an athlete, coach, and trainer have come to a culmination, and Webster University Cheerleading should excel under her tutelage.
