Oregon commit Dior Johnson set for senior season at Prolific Prep

NAPA, Calif.– Prolific Prep’s Dior Johnson has been a busy man. Ranked the 14th best prospect in the country for the class of 2022, and number one at point guard, the prep star has made a habit of indecision.

Prior to joining Prolific Prep in Napa, CA, Dior had enrolled in the following high schools according to his 247sports profile: Oak Hill Academy, Saugerties Senior, IMG Academy, Findlay Prep, MayFair and Centennial. This past June, Dior Johnson committed to joining the University of Oregon, which was an intriguing decision considering he had previously broken a nine-month long commitment with Syracuse University four months earlier.

“I wanted to commit now because I felt like Oregon was the place for me,” Johnson said. “I am a person who is big on relationships and trust. The relationship I have been able to establish with Coach Altman is special and being that he is a legendary coach, I feel that learning from him on a daily basis on and o the court will be huge for my development. He is a Coach that will push you every day to be great and that is something I like.”

Having someone to look up to is of great importance to Dior Johnson, considering he has bounced around the country on numerous occasions in search of the right fit for his high school basketball career, Dior shared the importance of finding personal growth through overcoming hardships and the value of proper guidance.

“In the past, I was immature with some of the decisions I have made being that everything surrounding basketball started to happen at a very young age for me. That came with me not embracing the right guidance and not understanding how certain decisions can affect my future. However, I have grown from these situations spiritually and my relationship with God has been strengthened. I have been introduced to great people and have had great coaches within my journey that I am very thankful for. I am glad that I went through those situations early on as now I understand the process in decision making and can continue to pass along the information to help the next generation not have to deal with the downfalls I’ve experienced.”

With the big decisions seemingly out of the way, Dior Johnson can focus on Prolific Prep’s 2021 season debut on November 12th, where scouts will be interested to see how he performs during his senior season. Considering that he is the top ranked pure point guard in his graduating class, there has been a watchful eye on his career for years.

From an evaluation in November 2020, the 247Sports Director of Basketball Scouting, Jerry Meyer, shared the following regarding Dior Johnsons’ status at the time.

“Good length and stature for a point guard. Quick athlete with superb body control. Has tremendous instincts as a driver and (distributor). Delivers the difficult pass. Finishes the difficult shot. High level lay up maker. Has multiple fade-away moves to his right shoulder. Shoots the ball well enough to be considered a three-level scorer. Has potential to rebound his position well and be a dangerous versatile defender. Has bounced around to multiple high schools which some view as a yellow flag.”

Outside of the indecisiveness that Dior Johnson has since spoken for and cleared-up on his own, it’s clear from this scouting report that indecisiveness is not a trait he shares on the court. His first game of the season will be in the Latitude-Longitude Classic, against an opponent yet to be determined, on November 12th.
