Lake City’s Blayne Barber competing in the PGA’s minor circuit

LAKE CITY, Fla. — Blayne Barber is aiming to put Lake City, Florida, on the PGA map. Barber is currently competing in the Korn Ferry Tour, the main developmental tour for the PGA.

Barber was born in Tallahassee in 1989 and has lived in the North Florida region for most of his life. He has made Lake City his home and continues to practice in the region. Barber also played golf for a few years at the University of Central Florida (UCF), but he transferred to Auburn for his junior and senior years. He was a two-time All-American while at Auburn.

Barber is hoping to get into the PGA ranks, although he has competed in one major. He competed in the U.S. Open in 2015 but did not make the cut.

Barber has one win in the Korn Ferry Tour. His victory came in 2014 when he won the South Georgia Classic at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta. He won $117,000 in the event.

The 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour season was a challenging one for Barber. He played in 33 events and only made the cut in 13 of them. But he did attain three top 10 finishes. Two of those finishes came in the final two events of the season. He finished in eighth at the Utah Championship and seventh in the Pinnacle Bank Championship. Both of those events were in Aug. 2021. Barber also made the cut in four of the last five events for the season, showing he has momentum heading into the next Korn Ferry Tour season to potentially attain his PGA Tour card.

While he has been showing his desire to compete, he is also aiming to show how responsible he is on the course. This aspect of his game was noticed when he disqualified himself from the 2012 PGA Tour qualifying school event in Georgia. He applied a one-stroke penalty on himself after brushing a leaf in a bunker, but he should have had a two-stroke penalty there. He continued to play, but he disqualified himself after feeling guilty about the move.

Whatever happens in his professional career, Barber has managed to attain an immense amount of money. As of Oct. 2021, he has a career earnings total of about $3.4 million.

Barber is also living a happy family life with his wife, Morgan. He has three kids, Emma Elizabeth, Ford Lawrence and Lawson Chandler.

Barber has hopes of making Lake City the next big city for professional golf. He has been climbing his way up the Korn Ferry Tour charts and is aiming to make the coming 2022 season his best one yet.
