Evan Muller continues to make a difference

OAKVILLE, Ontario – Oakville’s own Evan Muller, a recent graduate of Oakville Trafalgar High School, is selected as one of the recipients of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario Bursary by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA). Muller’s impressive hockey career as an Oakville Ranger, his academic success and his contributions to his community were acknowledged by an $8,000 bursary.

was no shock that Muller deserved such acknowledgment. He devoted his time left from hockey practices to various volunteer projects.

According to the OMHA website, hockey had a significant impact on Muller’s choices in life. He stated that, “Hockey means everything to me. It’s where I’ve made most of my friends, I’ve learned a lot from the coaches and role models, and it’s always been an enjoyable experience where I can go and have fun.”

“Determination and willingness to make himself better translated into all aspects of his life,” said his father, Charles Muller, about how Muller’s experience in hockey influenced his choices.

Muller did not only have an impressive career as a hockey player for 12 seasons, but he also worked as a timekeeper and referee.

In 2021, Muller was the recipient of the Oakville Rangers President’s Award. On Oakville Rangers’ website, his accomplishments in hockey were acknowledged.

“Over his 12 seasons, Evan has been a volunteer, player, coach, official, and timekeeper. Evan helped his teams reach the House League finals five seasons in a row – ending with being able to raise the cup finally! His goal was to become a Rep player, which he did at Minor Bantam and played Rep until his final season.” said the announcement in the website.

Muller’s coach, Mark Moro, commented on his progress in hockey on the OMHA website. He stated that “Evan is a strong hockey player who is committed, even with the COVID situation, he was there in all of the practices.”

One might think that Muller had no time in between his high-commitment schedule. However, he managed to create time for issues he believed were important for his community.

He began to participate in projects like Kerr Street Mission and Santa Claus Fund.

During the pandemic, Muller had an idea about solving the crisis of increasing use of food banks versus the shortage of supply in food banks.

He created The Fresh Food Project, which aims to provide fresh local produce to Oakville families in need and help small farmers whose businesses have suffered from the pandemic.

The Fresh Food Project was a success. His passion and commitment once again proved that he is an individual who will continue to have a significant contribution to his community. The Fresh Food Project helped Muller to receive the 2020 Peace Medal in the youth category.

In 2021, OMHA announced the five winners of 8,000$ bursaries for 2020-2021 Season. These bursaries are granted to hockey players who show promise both as athletes, students, and volunteers. The bursary is called “Dairy Farmers of Ontario Bursary.” Not surprisingly, Muller was one of the recipients.

Ian Taylor, Executive Director of the OMHA commented on recipients, saying “Their desire to give back during a challenging year in hockey and their excellence in the classroom shows their leadership as people and players. I am confident these five great athletes and students will continue to shine in their post-secondary education.”

We congratulate Evan Muller on his bursary. It was well-deserved for a four-year Honour Roll student, a top hockey player, and an individual who continues to give back to his society.

When talking about his bursary, Evan’s father Charles Muller stated that “As his skills developed he became a lot more confident and he took that into high school and into the real world.”

Oakville Trafalgar High School graduate now pursues his academic career in Western University, studying Management and Organizational Studies. Muller has a bright future ahead of him, we wish him the best of luck in every field of his life!
