Interlake Thunder atom football finishes season after hard-fought battle in championship
WINNIPEG, Manitoba — The Interlake Thunder Atom tackle football team (for ages 10 and 11), has made enormous strides this season. It’s hard to believe that over half the players never played football before, yet the team went from losing their first 2 games of the season, to rattling off 4 straight wins, and then winning the semi final to go head-to-head with the St. James Rods in the 2021 season final. The Rods came out ahead, but not without a fight from our never-quitting team!
The defense, led by Ryan Bobrovich as middle linebacker, was supported by a cast of the “2010 linebackers” – Mason Panting, Jack Rennie and Titus Boville. The big man on the line was Brock Kramble, and completing the defense was the versatile do-what-is-asked-of-them Xander Duncan and Ryan Seed.
On the offensive side of the ball, Malakai Boville led the way as team captain and field general. At quarterback, the dual threat Hudson Panting would sling it down field to his 2 favorite targets, Evan Searcy and Maddox Felbel.
Keeping these boys standing up straight and making blocks were Weston Pruen, Mathew Samborski and centre Brady Bilinksi, who also doubled as the team’s place kicker.
All-in-all each player accepted responsibility for their role so that the team could be successful. The coaching staff is very proud of each of these young men for the development and positive attitudes they demonstrated this season.
Special thanks also go out to the assistant coaches Clark Bobrovich and Thomas Dunlop, as well as special guest coaches Arden Boville, Ryan Duncan, and trainer Teressa Bobrovich, and Manager Jeremy Rennie.
