Regis College notches a rush of swim awards

WESTON, Mass. — The Regis College swimming and diving team have recently received a rush of awards. In total, four Regis Pride swimmers have been honored so far this season.

Megan Miller was named the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Female Swimmer of the Week by the associations’ coaches. Miller has been improving her times in a range of events this season. At a recent dual meet against Eastern Connecticut State and Stonehill, Miller improved her personal best times in the 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke events and the 100-meter freestyle. Her stand-out swim was in the 50-meter backstroke where Miller reduced her best time by over one-and-a-half seconds to 31.61 seconds. Miller adds this honor to her NEISDA All-Academic honors from spring 2021 and fall 2020.

Hailing from Quincy, Massachusetts, Miller swam for Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, Massachusetts, where she received CCL All-Star awards in both 2017 and 2018. The college sophomore is now majoring in nursing.

Having not won a GNAC weekly swimmer award since 2019, Regis has seen a run of recent success.

Fellow women’s swimming and diving team member, Kyleigh Boatwright, was honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and named the women’s swimming and diving Athlete of the Week. Like Miller, Boatwright swims the backstroke and freestyle sprint events. The senior from Roseville, California, regularly leads the Pride with strong performances including anchoring relays. At the recent dual meet, she brought home the 200-meter freestyle relay with a split in her leg of 26.99 seconds.

This most recent award adds to a long list of achievements by Boatwright, including NEISDA All-Academic on four occasions, Academic All-GNAC in 2020 and 2021, as well as GNAC 200-meter backstroke champion in 2019-20.

A week prior, fellow women’s team member Laylan Harris was named GNAC women’s swimming and diving Rookie of the Week. Harris competes in the freestyle and butterfly and was key to the Pride improving their 200-meter freestyle relay time to 1:50.33.

On the men’s side, Sam Madriz was honored as GNAC men’s swimming and diving Athlete of the Week. Like Miller, Madriz set personal records during a recent meet at Eastern College State, reducing his 50-meter butterfly time by 0.44 seconds to 26.57 seconds. Originally from Union, New Jersey, Madriz previously swam for the Tidal Wave swim team. At Regis, Madriz, who is currently a sophomore, is majoring in exercise science.

The Pride will be hosting a dual event against Babson College and Norwich University on Nov. 13. This event includes both the men’s and women’s teams.
