Borba Bond: Texas commit Casey Borba and father aim to lead Lancers to title
ORANGE, Calif. (BVM) — The Orange County Lutheran High School baseball team has seen its fair share of talent take the field over the past years. And the Lancers have another talented prospect manning the hot corner in Casey Borba.

As a sophomore, Borba batted .333 in 99 at-bats. He also had 18 runs and 25 RBIs.
At 6-foot, 200-pounds, Borba has stood out as one of the best up-and-coming baseball prospects in California. The third baseman helped the Lancers finish with an overall record of 30-6 last season.
“It’s always nice to see your kids develop through your program and go on to play at the next level,” Orange Lutheran head baseball coach Eric Borba said.

And from an early age, Coach Borba could tell that his son, Casey, had something special when it came to baseball.
“We encouraged him to play other sports when he was younger…but never really cared to do anything else,” Eric said. “Baseball was something he wanted to do. It’s funny, when he was four or five years old, he didn’t want to play baseball, he wanted to coach just like dad. But you could tell from a young age he was pretty advanced [when it came to baseball], and he continued to progress… and he fell in love with it.”
Because of his continued success at the high school level, Casey has seen interest spike in him to play baseball at the collegiate level. He ultimately decided to commit to Texas in October.
“I was told ‘You’ll know what’s right,’” Casey said. “As soon as I stepped on to the UT campus, I knew it was [the] right place for me.”
I couldn’t be more proud of @CaseyBorba and how he’s handled this whole process! He’s going to be a Longhorn! @TexasBaseball Thanks to all of our family, friends, and all of the coaches that have helped get him here. Lots of work ahead! pic.twitter.com/7V3GqGBZRA

In 2023 Casey will be joining one of the top-tier baseball programs in the nation at Texas. The Longhorns finished the 2020-21 season with a record of 50-17 (17-7 Big 12) and the squad made it all the way to Omaha before being knocked out by eventual national champion Mississippi State.
When Casey joins the Longhorns in two years, he’ll have the opportunity to play for one of the best coaches in college baseball: David Pierce. Pierce has an overall record of 369-203 (172-94 at Texas). Casey will look to help boost the Longhorns chances of reaching Omaha gains when he hits the field.
“I think he can [have a great] impact at Texas,” Eric said. “He’s going to have an opportunity to go and compete for a spot as a freshman. He’s got to compete, and he knows that, but the talent level, his desire to win and his commitment is going to put him in a position to compete [for a starting role].”
Casey has shown he has the potential to be a great offensive player. And now with his commitment to Texas and his junior season on the horizon, he will have his eyes set on improving his already impressive skill set and leading the Lancers to their first NHSI title since 2019.
“[This year] my goal is to contribute in every way I can. Be a team player on and off the field,” Casey said. “[Baseball] means everything [to me]. I’ve been growing up around it ever since I was born. I love it. [This year] my goal is to contribute in every way I can. Be a team player on and off the field.”
