The Boone County Rebels are making a comeback this season

FLORENCE, Ky. — While everything wasn’t moving in the usual way throughout the last two seasons and varsity basketball took a massive hit in the chin from the global pandemic of COVID-19, there was a team out of Kentucky who worked extremely hard to create an up-and-coming program for the upcoming seasons.

The Boone County Rebels basketball team is ready to go and prove that the people who doubted them were completely and utterly wrong.

One prime example of how the Rebels are determined to work and make the necessary changes to make it to the top of Florence is by shaking up the coaching staff. The Boone County Rebels recently tweeted about their new addition to the coaching staff.

The actual progress and the process of having an identity as a team doesn’t only come from coaching, but also from the work that the players put in at the end and before the start of every season, which is precisely what the Rebels did last summer.

During the summer high school league for teams out of Kentucky, the Rebels played against some great teams out of Florence. They managed to finish at a 5-1 record.

If you don’t believe the evidence about the constant progress of the team, just take a look at the numbers. In the 2019-20 season, the Rebels finished in 4th place of the 33rd district of Kentucky, with an overall record of six wins and 21 losses. This accounts for a 1-6 record in the respective league of the section and a .22 winning percentage.

During the following winter season between 2020-21, the Rebels finished with an 8-11 record, a .42 winning percentage overall and 4th place of the 33rd district once again (1-3 record in the league).

The records have been better over time. Overall, the team has been able to avoid blowouts, reduce the losses and climb the rankings of the district and the state as a whole. With the 8-11 record of the last winter season, the Rebels are sitting at No. 129 in Kentucky.

Under the coaching of Greg McQueary, the Rebels are ready to show the rest of the district the program they have created. They hope to make headlines as the new underdogs out of Florence that are fighting for a spot in the Top-100 team list.

The first battle of the winter 2021-22 season starts on Dec. 3 against the Cooper Jaguars and continues with a non-conference away game against the Newport Wildcats on Dec. 6.

These will be crucial matches for the team out of Florence. They will have the ability to show the state what they are made of and how they will use their chemistry and identity to win matches and climb up the Kentucky rankings.
