Caitlin Williams: A true all-around student athlete

LITTLE SILVER, N.J. (BVM) — Trinity Hall freshman Caitlin Williams is no stranger to balancing multiple sports and activities.  As a forward for the Trinity Hall High School field hockey team, she has been a standout already in her first season as a high school player. At only 14, this young athlete is already a contributing member of the varsity team.

She has netted four goals this season while also adding several assists for the offense. Williams began her field hockey career when she was in fifth grade with both the St. James, Red Bank grammar school team as well as the Jersey Intensity Club team. When Covid hit in winter of 2020, the St. James school team folded, but Williams was fortunately able to continue with the Jersey Intensity team, which she continues to play with today. She nearly plays year-round honing her skills with the club team, only taking the winters off to concentrate on her swimming.

Williams is also an accomplished and talented swimmer competing for the New Jersey Race Club team based out of Tinton Falls. She has achieved many accolades over the years. At a young age, she began swimming at a local beach club which led her to competitive swimming at the age of 10. Williams competes in the breaststroke, backstroke, and individual medley categories. This past August, she earned the privilege to swim in the ISCA National Elite showcase in St. Petersburg, FL. Most recently, she earned a third-place finish overall in the 200 backstroke with NJRC at a meet held at the Neptune Aquatics Center. Aside from that, Williams enjoys competing in Junior Lifeguard Competitions as part of the Long Branch Junior Lifeguard program. It’s no surprise that swimming is her favorite sport.

“I would pick swim as my favorite because I’ve been with that team a long time and my teammates are really supportive. But I’m looking forward to meeting more people at Trinity Hall and connecting with them, too,” Williams said.

Williams intends to swim for the Trinity Hall team this winter while also keeping up with NJRC year-round.

At Trinity Hall, she is no slouch in the classroom either, carrying an extensive load of honors level classes. She has also joined a few after school clubs including Surf Club, Culture Club, Criminology Club, and Environmental Club. This comes as no surprise to her parents as she excelled at St. James Elementary school both in and out of the classroom. She was the recipient of two community service scholarships from the Knights of Columbus and the Rose Annmarie Rusch Foundation. Williams’ mom, Laurie, says, “I’m most proud of her work ethic. She has chosen sports that require a lot of practice time. These sports practice five days a week, but when your body is ready, mental toughness can take over. It’s a huge commitment and I’m impressed with how she balances her heavy workload while making all the practices and meets for her sports.”

Laurie is very familiar with excelling at school and sports. She was recruited to play softball at the University of Pennsylvania, and also spent two years on the field hockey team at the Ivy League college.

It is apparent that Caitlin has set the bar high at a young age which can be stressful at any age.  This bright, accomplished student athlete seems to have things under control though with her positive attitude.

“I balance things by getting my work done during free time and by learning time management skills.” Williams adds.

With her first year of high school field hockey behind her, and swimming around the corner, Williams has a promising and bright future ahead of her at Trinity Hall and beyond.
