South Walton Seahawks come up with win in final home game

SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (BVM) — . The 8-1 Seahawks are returning home on a six game win streak after a 51-0 blowout over the Vernon Yellowjackets. South Walton is preparing for one final home game this regular season against the 4-4 Lighthouse Christian Academy Stingrays.

Before kick off, the Seahawk community came out in full support for the 17 seniors that the Seahawk football program recognized on Friday night for their many amazing accomplishments and hard work on and off the field, in school and out in the community.

“I am proud of them but we are not done yet,” head coach Phil Tisa said. “It was a great senior night but now it is on to the second season.”

The Seahawks offense got the ball to start the game, as senior Kemper Hodges connected with Cade Roberts for the first touchdown of the game. After that, the Seahawks never looked back from that moment on heading to an astonishing 41- 6 final improving the Seahawks to 9-1 for the regular season.

For Cade Roberts and the rest of the Seahawks, this senior night is one that will not be forgotten. Roberts needed 7 catches going into the game to break the state receptions record for the state of Florida. With 56.7 seconds left in the first half Roberts caught the record breaking pass from Hodges giving him reception number 253. The very next play he caught his second touchdown of the night off a deep 50-yard pass on a reverse from Pearce Spurlin III.

“Fulfilling you know, it has been a long time coming,” Tisa said. “He does things the right way. That is just the type of kid you want to coach, I couldn’t be happier for him.”

With the Seahawks having a 41-6 lead at half time, the fans at the Hawks Nest got to see the future of the South Walton program on the field as well during senior night.

“The future is bright and I look forward to seeing what those kids can do,“ Coach Tisa said. “Their time is going to come but it is not yet.”

Not yet is correct as the powerhouse offense of the Seahawks. South Walton has scored 422 points this season and will be getting a first round bye going into the state playoffs starting next week. The Seahawks will be going into the playoffs as the number two seed in Region 1 Class 4A. They will face the winner of Marianna Bulldogs and the Andrew Jackson Tigers at the Hawks Nest on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
