Webster’s latest soccer star: Isabella Dickneite

ST. LOUIS — The accolades just keep on coming for Webster University’s soccer squads.

Earlier this week, on Nov. 1, the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced that Webster Gorloks’ defender Isabella Dickniete had been named the SLIAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 25-31.

The Gorloks recorded two shutout victories this past week, and Dickneite played a key role in both of them. She led the back line, which over the course of those two games allowed just seven shots, with five of them being on frame. This is the first time that she has earned Player of the Week honors in the SLIAC.

Dickneite, a freshman out of Oakville High School in South County, St. Louis, has joined Jordan Lande and Taryn Banfield as the third Webster women’s soccer player to earn Player of the Week honors during this season, and she’s played quite well to begin the season. She has seen action in all 19 of the Gorloks’ games this season and has started in eight of them. So far this season, she has knocked in one goal and scored two points in her 1,067 minutes played.

Dickneite is no stranger to playing good defense, but interestingly, she actually did not play soccer during her days at Oakville High. Basketball was her sport, and she was one of the top rebounders on the Oakville Tigers varsity team during her time there. She grabbed at least six boards in five games during the 2018-19 season, her sophomore year at Oakville High.

That rebounding prowess would only continue to grow from there. During the 2019-20 season, she averaged around ten boards per game. She grabbed 13 rebounds in a game against Lindbergh on Dec. 6 of that year. In her senior year at Oakville High, she recorded at least 10 rebounds in 12 of her games. She managed to grab 18 in a game against the Pioneers of Kirkwood High School.

And now, here she is at Webster University, playing soccer. She has been instrumental in the Webster women’s squad’s success this season. Her outstanding play has already earned her a Player of the Week award, and more is sure to come if she keeps it up in the future.

Webster will be hosting the Panthers of Greenville University in the SLIAC quarterfinals, and they’ll need Dickneite to continue her trend of solid defense going forward.
