UGA adds four-star CB Julian Humphrey to loaded 2022 class

UGA adds four-star CB Julian Humphrey to loaded 2022 class

ATHENS, Ga. — This college football season has been packed with improbable upsets, and riveting conference play. However, what the Georgia Bulldogs have been able to accomplish in 2021 is nothing short of amazing.

Not only are the Dawgs’ currently undefeated (9-0), officially cementing themselves atop the NCAA landscape. But they’ve also set themselves up for future success by reeling in some of the nation’s top prospects in 2022.

And among the most recent list of recruits is Houston’s four-star cornerback, Julian Humphrey.

Humphrey, who initially intended on playing for the Gators next season, recently decommitted and announced that he was looking at LSU, Texas A&M, and Georgia as his final destinations. Even while there was some hope that the stud cornerback would end up in Baton Rouge, along with two other four-star cornerbacks already slated to play for the Tigers in 2022. This week it was officially announced that he would join the undefeated Bulldogs for the following 2022 season. A team that already held the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.

The 6’2” cornerback had the following to say on his decision to join the team from Athens.

“Georgia is DBU… I think they had (four) DBs drafted last year, that’s like a record.” Humphrey said. “Once I saw that, that clicked instantly, they must be doing something different from all those other schools. I’m like ok that’s something I would love to be part of for sure, be developed like those guys.”

Humphrey is a two-time all-district honoree at League City Clear Falls, which plays in the biggest classification of Texas high school football. He also ranks as the nation’s 94th overall recruit, and No. 12 ranked cornerback in the country. With scouts noting his frame, ball skills, and world-class speed as his primary attributes.

Here’s what SI All-American had to say about the Georgia-bound cornerback.

“Yes, Humphrey is one of the fastest players on this list, with verified 100-meter dash times in the 10.5-second range. Yes, it helps widen the margin for error while in coverage on Friday nights. But no, this isn’t another track star being molded into a football prospect, Humphrey is a football prospect who also runs track. He is comfortable in his transitions, tracks the football well, and flashes big-time bait instincts while in coverage. Throw in an ideal frame and another year of prep experience and it amounts to a talent we may still have pegged too low in the top 15.”

Georgia now sits atop the NCAA with 22 commitments to their 2022 class, just slightly ahead of SEC-rival Alabama. With Humphrey sliding in as the team’s 9th top-100 commitment (6 of which are on defense), and the program’s new star at defensive back.

It appears as if UGA is officially back on top of the SEC, and here to stay.
