Lakeville South Cougars deliver winning performance against Shakopee in playoffs
LAKEVILLE, MN – Top-ranked football club Lakeville South is staying true to its goal of getting results in all playoff games. And the state tournament’s quarterfinals were no exception.
Head coach Ben Burk was all smiles after watching his team score another breakthrough performance on Nov. 12 which outlasted Shakopee, getting a winning score of 42-28 in the Class 6A quarterfinals. “They have it in their DNA now,” explained the Cougars’ coach. “You need to come out on top of a very cold game to play at U.S. Bank Stadium.”
The team paved the way for a go-ahead score which came from lead player Josh Jacobson. Great running back acts are definitely his forte and the Cougars couldn’t be more proud of the display. But Lakeville South isn’t celebrating just yet as they now advance forward to compete against St. Michael-Albertville.
With many referring to the game as déjà vu for both sides, it was soon evident how the win didn’t come easy, considering how brilliant of a fight Shakopee is known for putting up.
“Shakopee is undoubtedly tough and physical, therefore we always wish to measure our performance against teams such as these,” said Coach Burk.
“They battled and we battled. It looked like a state championship game,” mentioned team Shakopee’s coach Ray Betton. “It really stings because we wanted it so bad!”
This makes Lakeville South’s win their third consecutive seasonal tournament toward downtown Minneapolis.
“There’s nothing that motivates a team more than bringing it to The Bank,” stated quarterback Camden Dean. The Cougars can always rely upon him for stellar touchdowns and confident throws.
The top ranked high school football team believes that they are now at a point in their program where they don’t view any moment as being too big. Instead, they’re looking at each game as an event with higher stakes. And that’s why they’re taking it one step at a time while understanding and preparing well.
There’s a good reason why the Lakeville South Cougars are referred to by many as the best prep team in the state of Minnesota. Each player exudes confidence that resonates throughout their program.
As shining running back player Carson Hansen mentioned, “We know that we are a great team. We like to dig in and finish the whole game.”
The entire unit works hard during training, leaving them strong and tough with athletic performances worth a mention, every time they are on the field. Moreover, it’s their throwback offense that so many others find so hard to defend against.
A typical snapshot during the week of the Lakeville South describes how they’ve managed to become an absolute powerhouse throughout the recent years. From neon signs that state “Building Champions” in weight rooms to players pushing and straining in absolute silence during workout sessions- it’s evident why the sound of victory permeates from all directions.
