Midlothian Trojans’ head football coach Matt Hutchings speaks about team’s family theme

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Head coach Matthew Hutchings of the Midlothian Trojans recently spoke about his team’s unique identity. And for those who may not be aware, there are several brother duos who work their magic in the squad this season.

“At any given point, we can have four sets of brothers on our defensive side of the football, which is pretty cool,” Hutchings told the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

It’s no wonder why Hutchings adores speaking about the Trojans being centered around the family theme.

Time after time, the coach sheds light on each and every sibling pair that could potentially be one of the reasons behind the unit’s recent success. After all, they may have finally found their secret formula for the dream team.

To summarize, there are the Runyons, which include Ryan and Jackson. Next up, you have the Semideys, which include brother duo Gabe and Gio. Who can forget the Berrys which comprise of Ashby and his brother Knox. Last but certainly not least, there’s the Harringtons, where all eyes are on sibling pair Declan and Conor.

In September, the high school football coach couldn’t have been more proud of the Harrington brothers, who played a crucial role when it came down to the offensive side. This secured a great victory for the Trojans over Clover Hill.

Conor, who prefers to play as a slot back, scored a touchdown, while brother Declan blocked up front with others to pave the way for 279 rushing yards.

Declan recalls how having all the brothers can really prove to be beneficial as each team member automatically becomes closer to one another. Similarly, he revealed how each brother strives to pick up one another, whenever they are down, no matter what circumstances they’re surrounded with.

Hutchings feels that with the family theme going strong, the team definitely benefits from the balance within.

“We have such a balance,” he told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “We’ve got weapons all over the place.”

Recently, Hutchings spoke about how he has full confidence in the brotherhood. For instance, if the opposing team’s defense side gives the Trojans a strong five-man box, Hutchings claims that his team will indefinitely come out to ground and pound them. In the same way, he spoke about how an eight-man box from the opposing defense allows his team’s unity to quickly get the ball outside and move in at a swift face. And in the end, they’re sure to throw it all deep.

The Trojans coach reiterated at one of his press conferences how it feels so wonderful to have a collection of guys like that, where each one has no care in the world of who actually gets the ball in the end.

With 15 years of true football coaching excellence under his belt, Hutchings is loving his team’s chemistry and unity so far. Therefore, it can be said without a doubt that at the end of the day, it’s factors like brotherhood and hard work that allow the Trojans to perform at their finest.
