Sacramento State Hornet Bryce Fowler continues consistent and reliable play
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Above anything else, consistency is the one true attribute which is valued by coaches. Even if you’re consistently poor, there is a staff available to work on the areas of your game that need improving. But the athletes that garner the most praise are those who are efficient and productive on a game-by-game basis. They are the ones you can count on to deliver when the shot clock is about to expire or when the game is on the line. It’s those players that have an almost mechanical nature embedded in their human frame that seem to warrant the attention and the acclaim. Therefore, Sacramento State Hornets’ Bryce Fowler has been rewarded with a lot of game time.
The 6-foot-6 guard/forward has been the Hornets’ most consistent player over the last two seasons. So far this season, he leads the team in points per game with 14.5 and in field goal percentage, from those who have taken more than five shots per game, with a rating of 48.0%. He’s also second best in the team in rebounds with 4.5 per game and second-best in assists with 2.5 per game. It’s undeniable that Fowler is the most reliable player on the team and even the most productive. But this isn’t a one-time occurrence.
Fowler has been the superstar for Sacramento State. In the 2020-21 season, he was one of two Hornets to start all 20 games. He received an honorable mention for the All-Big Sky Conference selection. He’s such a multi-dimensional player that Fowler was called to play in all five positions during his collegiate career. It’s a rare accomplishment, but unsurprising given his assortment and breadth of skills. In terms of stats, Fowler averaged 13.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 31.7 minutes per game. He shot the ball efficiently too.
He had a 43.0 field goal percentage from 342 shots and a 77.0 free throw percentage from 65 taken from the charity stripe. Additionally, he was ranked fourth in the Big Sky in steals and fifth in assists. His all-around game is a marvel to witness. Fowler is on a team that relies on him to make the big shots, to pass the ball to the open man, to fight for the loose ball, and to pickpocket the opposition. He’s the Swiss Army knife of players, a veritable utility man that performs at the same heightened level in every game. Fowler is part of a rare club of individuals who contribute so much to their team but do so in a quiet and contained manner. He’s definitely a player to look out for should he decide to go pro.
