Who is Sabina Shackelford?

GOLETA, Calif. — Sabina Shackleford, 5-foot-8, is a 19-year-old water polo player from Goleta, California who plays for the University of California Irvine (UCI). Her parents are Tyson and Sherie Shackelford and other family members include an older sister Toni, who also plays water polo at UCI, and two other sisters named Lauren and Christina. When she’s not scoring multiple points for her team, Sabina loves to cook, bake and swim.

Sabina is a 2020 alumnus of the renowned Dos Pueblos High School (DPHS) in her hometown of Goleta. At Dos Pueblos High School, she was a member of the varsity girls water polo team, the Chargers, and played a crucial role in the team’s defense during their games. She graduated high school in 2020 and moved on to UCI. She is now a sophomore and plays for the Anteaters as an attacker.

Sabina did not just float through DPHS, it was either sink or swim, and she swam beautifully. She accumulated several accolades while on the girls varsity team at DPHS, including but not limited to All-Channel League in 2019, All-Channel League in 2020, second team All-CIF Southern section in 2019 and helped her team reach the CIF Division 1 championship in 2018

Sabina scored her first college goal at UCI in February 2021 in a match between the Anteaters of UCI and California Baptist University. Her sister Toni, a senior at UCI, also played the match and scored two goals.

Sabina’s collegiate career got off to an impressive start and we can expect more amazing feats from her.
