Dominik Jendek joins the Sudbury Wolves

SUDBURY, Ontario — Entering the weekend, the Sudbury Wolves were 7-12-1-0. While it’s far too early to press the panic button, the club felt that they needed some reinforcements. So, on Thursday, the Wolves announced that overage forward Dominik Jendek will join the club for the remainder of the season.

Drafted in the second round (91st overall) of last year’s Import Draft, Jendek will bring with him a ton of speed and a great two-way game. The 20-year-old forward hopes to use his experience from the Slovakian men’s league to help his new team win some games and, in the process, climb the OHL’s Eastern Conference standings.

While they needed some help up front anyway, the Wolves were especially eager to bring Jendek aboard following a recent injury to the club’s right-winger, Kosta Manikis. Since there’s no imminent timetable for the winger’s return, Jendek’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Sudbury.

Jendek, who is 6-foot-1 and 181 pounds, began this season with HC Modre Kridle Slovan, scoring three goals and five assists in 15 games. Jendek also represented his native Slovakia at the past two World Junior tournaments, earning a plus-two rating in each installment.

The Bratislava native arrived in Canada late last week and made his Wolves debut on Sunday. Jendek got his proverbial feet wet in the OHL, however, his debut resulted in his new team falling in defeat, 4-2 to the Barrie Colts.

En route to the loss, Jendek was a minus-one, had one shot on goal, and was an underwhelming 1-for-12 in the faceoff circle. With that being said, the Slovakian’s OHL career is just one game old, so let us not put too much stock in his struggles. Instead, let us see how Jendek improves over the course of his next few games. After all, a lot can change from here until the OHL’s holiday break, which is just under three weeks from now.

Whichever way you look at it, this is a transitional period for not only Jendek but for the Sudbury Wolves collectively as they simply hope to get themselves into a winning groove sooner rather than later.

Along with the aforementioned Manikis, Jendek joins Liam Ross and goaltender Mitchell Weeks as the Wolves’ overage players this season.

Stay tuned for more from Jendek as his OHL career continues.
