Getting to know Woodside’s Maceo Latimer

WOODSIDE, Calif. — Maceo Latimer, whose name means “gift of God,” is a senior on the Woodside High School (WHS) varsity football team. Maceo loves football and he likes to play in numerous positions. He always pushes himself to be the most influential player in every match. He hangs out with his teammates after the practice sessions or a game to build a good connection.

Maceo believes that football allows him to create himself.

“It never gets easier no matter how much I improve,” he said.

Maceo will graduate in 2022. He balances his academics with football very well and makes sure he does his homework on time. He not only likes to play football, but soccer as well.

Maceo’s future goal is to play football competitively at a community college. His passion for football is something else. He shows a sense of responsibility after each game and learns from his mistakes.

He closely follows professional football players, learns from them and applies those skills in his gameplay. Maceo is very consistent and always spares extra time to play football believing in the manta, “Practice makes a man perfect.”

In the 2021 football season, Maceo wore jersey number 6 and played slotback and kicker. His California southern section football rank is No. 855.

Maceo has received some awards for his name. He was a three-time Player of the Game. On Jan. 18, 2018, he was named as Woodside JV Soccer Player of the Game. On Oct. 11, 2019, he was selected as the Special Teams Woodside Football Player of the Game. On Oct. 8, 2021, he was chosen as the Defensive Woodside Football Player of the Game.

At a very young age, he is proving his love for football by playing like a star. He believes the more he focuses on every game, the better he plays. He learns from his teammates and even the opposite side players.

Maceo was the Athlete of the Week on Sept. 6, 2021, for WHS. He will remain on the Woodside Athletic list as his coach is impressed with his game, and all his teammates appreciate how he plays and stays focused during the game.

“Study hard, practice hard, play hard,” are the rules Maceo set for himself. His focus on studies and football at the same time is definitely going to make his future very bright.

This may be one of the first times you are getting to learn about Maceo and his love for football. His determination at this very young age is undoubtedly only the beginning for him and an example for newcomers.
