Ashley Rosenberg shares her love for soccer as the girls HC at Red Bank Regional

LITTLE SILVER, N.J. — After watching her brother at age four, Ashley Rosenberg had always loved playing soccer. When she turned eight, she was on her first traveling team. But it didn’t end there. She would go onto play soccer in high school, then college, before ultimately sharing her love of the sport with the Red Bank Regional soccer team.

“I love teaching girls who are as into soccer as I was when I was a little girl!” she says.

To start the practice, Rosenberg has her team do warmups and stretches, before some possession drills, where Rosenberg splits the team into two where they work on passing the ball, as well as dribbling and shooting drills to better their craft. RBR senior, Catherine McCallion, has been on Rosenberg’s team since she was a freshman and has enjoyed the sport since she was a child as well, and Rosenberg’s coaching has never disappointed. “She bases her coaching on team bonding,” McCallion explains. “and that is what makes a good soccer team.”

When COVID hit, the team had to face a challenge they had never seen before. “We had a lot of different protocols,” Rosenberg explains. “such as playing in our divisions, wearing masks when not playing, so it’s great to step back into our normal patterns this year.”

The best part, which everyone on the team agrees on, is that they are more than a soccer team. “I’ve known a lot of girls on this team for years,” McCallion says. “and we definitely bond outside of practice.”

“It’s a very close-knit kind of team.” Rosenberg adds. “We’re like a big family.”
