The Durango Demons record another successful season

DURANGO, Colo. — The Durango Demons from Durango High School are the defending state champions for 3A varsity high school football in Colorado. The varsity team shows exceptional teamwork, dedication and perseverance year after year as they pursue the state championship title.

The team ended their 2021-22 playoff season on Nov. 30 against Mead High School. During a time in which many high schools are struggling to compete, the Durango Demons continue to shine, making them an excellent team to keep an eye on next season.

The team’s playoff season represents the hard work and dedication that the team members and head coach Todd Casebier put in over the course of the season. The Durango Demons ended the playoff season with a highly competitive game against Mead High School that ended in a close 13-14 loss. Even with the loss, their talent and determination showed on the field.

“I’m proud of our kids,” Casebier said. “They battled all game, and that’s the kind of toughness and grit we need around here.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Demons persevered and gave their competition a tough challenge time and time again. The Demons had two canceled games during the season, one of which occurred when the competing team went into quarantine due to COVID-19 before the game was scheduled to start.

Despite the season’s unprecedented challenges, the players showed strong grit.

“Grit, the raw endurance, perseverance and passion that keeps you going despite obstacles,” junior Joshua Bates posted on Instagram regarding how the team stayed strong during the obstacles presented by the pandemic.

The team will soon defend its reigning state championship title. The team shows strong passion for football. Durango High School is known for its talented athletics teams, and the Demons do not disappoint. They have the potential to return for another great playoff season in 2022.

Varsity high school football teams always run the risk of losing players as they graduate, and the Demons are no different. According to the roster on the Durango Athletics website, they stand to lose 16 senior players this year. Their current roster shows 28 rising junior players who have the potential to return for an outstanding 2022-23 varsity football season.

Given the Durango Demons’ strong track record over the last two seasons, competing varsity high school teams may be wary of future games against this team. The Demons future will depend on the continued success of its players next season and leadership from the coaching staff. One thing is certain: the Durango Demons are going to give high school football fans an exciting performance in the state championships for years to come.
