Get to know Zavier Short

CHAPIN, S.C. — Zavier Short is a fast-rising football player on the boys varsity football team at the reputable Chapin High School. Contrary to his name, Short is definitely not short. He is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound football player who plays the position of wide receiver and wears jersey No. 8 for the Eagles. He has been on the varsity football team since he was a freshman in 2018. In the recently concluded season, he led the Eagles with 67 catches for 1,038 yards, 14 touchdowns and also had touchdowns rushing, passing and on special teams.

Short has been ranked as a three-star prospect and No. 16 in the state for the current Class of 2022. He ran a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash at a camp at North Carolina State in the summer of 2021 and is the all-time leading receiver at Chapin with 217 catches for 3,391 yards. He was also two-time NextGen All-American, one-time 5A first team All-State and selected to Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl and Shrine Bowl.

Short is currently a senior at Chapin and is expected to graduate by June 2022; however, being as talented as he is, he has started receiving offers from different universities already. The wide receiver has been committed to Appalachian State since June 2021.

However, he has just recently been offered a place at the equally prestigious University of South Carolina (USC). Short had stated previously that although he was committed to Appalachian State, it has always been a dream of his to attend USC due to the fact it is in his hometown, and he has worked really hard for this dream. The great Gamecocks of USC are recruiting Short as a tight end.

Short stated that he had not made a decision yet and would just see what was best for him. His coach had just been telling him to keep doing what he’s doing because he thinks some other coaches are starting to realize what he sees.

Appalachian State and USC were not the only schools that showed interest in the senior football star. Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina and Liberty also tossed their hats into the ring to vie for Short’s attention. We’ll have to wait see where this young star ends up next season.
