Burnsville native Colton Gregersen earns college attention for athletics and academics

BURNSVILLE, MN. — Colton Gregersen, an 18-year-old football player, has made quite the name for himself. Playing linebacker and fullback, this 6-foot-2 player is getting waves of appreciation for his good sportsmanship. His coach, Vince Varpness, recently bragged on Facebook about Gregersen.

“Colleges, you better get on this kid before it’s too late as his phone is lighting up,” Varpness said. “He’s a great player and an even better kid. Team player, a captain, does whatever you ask of him as he has the best interest of the team in mind at all times. Also a great hockey player.”

Along with his athletic accomplishments, Gregersen has also maintained a 3.8 GPA. It gets more impressive considering he is captain of both the football and hockey teams. His accomplishments caught the attention of Colby Kratch, an assistant director of player personnel at Iowa State University who offered a preferred walk on to Gregersen.

Midwest scouting director, Oliver James West, agrees with the hype on Gregersen.

“The Burnsville senior has length, strength, and plenty of physicalities as he possesses the most violent junior tape I saw out of Minnesota last year and one of the most aggressive out of the Midwest,” West said. “He absolutely obliterates blocks and can hold the edge better than anyone in the state, as well as blitz and block.”

Gregersen was recently chosen to play in Minnesota Football Showcase of 2021 and Varpness was impressed with his all-star accolade.

“Colton’s already making plays in the all-star game — way to go,” Varpness said. “Also recognized at halftime for making the Academic all-star team with 3.8 GPA.”

Varpness considers Gregersen as one of the most valuable and noteworthy players that will help build up the team and boost an honorable team. Varpness impressed with Gregersen’s abilities reported him as,

“[Gregersen] is the most physical player in Minnesota because he’s fearless out there,” Varpnes said. “He’s not afraid to hit anybody.”

Gregersen was also named All-Metro at the linebacker spot. Don Willis while admiring the capabilities of Gregersen said, “Minnesota High School All-star game, Colton Gregersen, my all outside linebacker, chosen to represent the North, Burnsville High school. The boy can play, watch him play hockey two days ago, can play that too.”

Gregersen has a promising future ahead of him if he keeps playing like this. His hard work, dedication, and ability to shine at multiple aspects of his life, will help pave his way to his bright future. It is showing that he takes his academics as seriously as playing sports. Gregersen plans to attend a four-year college and continue playing sports. No doubt he can carry both well with his work ethic and abilities as an athlete.

His coaches along with his teammates can put faith in him to lead the team and perform well. His leadership skills are well received and trusted by his teammates.

“If we come along as a team the way we should, I think we can have a winning record,” Gregersen said.

Spoken like a true captain, carrying out the team’s spirit.
