Oak Creek’s Michael Sippy hoping for a big final track and field season for UW-Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE — Michael Sippy has been running for the UW-Milwaukee Panthers for a long time now. This upcoming season will be his fifth year running at UW-Milwaukee.

Sippy did not grow up far from Milwaukee. He grew up in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, about 20 minutes south of Milwaukee. He attended Oak Creek High School and competed on their track and field team.

Sippy was a running legend at Oak Creek High School. He graduated with the school records in the 800-meter, 4x400m relay, 4x800m relay, and distance medley relay. As one would expect, Sippy also won many awards in high school. He qualified for state a combined seven times in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons and won a silver medal in the 4x400m relay at state as a sophomore. He also finished fourth in the 800m and 4x800m relay at state in his senior year.

After high school, Sippy went to UW-Milwaukee and started running on their track and field and cross country teams. He performed well in both fields as a freshman but only secured one medal. In a league meet, he got a silver medal in the outdoor 4x400m relay. His performance was recognized, and he was named All-League second team in the outdoor 4x400m relay.

Sippy increased his performance in his sophomore year. In cross country, he finished 35th in the Horizon League Championships and helped his team to win runner-up. In indoor track and field, Sippy began his season strong. He finished in first place in the 800m in the season’s first meet. He also finished fourth in the 800m at the Horizon League Championships.

Sippy had an impressive junior season in indoor track and field. He got second place in the 800m in the Tierney Classic and earned a bronze medal in the 800m at the Horizon League Championships. Unfortunately, the outdoor track and field season was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Sippy’s indoor track and field performance was recognized, and he was named to the League All-Academic team.

Sippy performed well in his junior year, but he had a stronger senior year. He did not compete in cross country but excelled in track and field. He took bronze in the 800m at the Horizon League Championships in outdoor track and field and took silver in the 800m and bronze in the 4x400m relay at the Horizon League Championships in indoor track and field. His efforts were recognized, and he was named to the All-League second team in the 800m.

Michael Sippy is currently a graduate student and competing in the cross country part of the season. The track and field season starts in January, and Sippy will probably have his strongest season to finish his college career.
