Chino Hills’ new head coach Mykeal Terry is here to stay

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — Turnover of coaches for the Chino Hills High School football team has been too quick. The unforeseeable change at the end of 2019 took everyone by surprise. Chris Stevens, Chino Hills High School’s previous football head coach, resigned from the position, leaving a void to fill.

Stevens’ record with the Chino Hills Huskies was 17-21.

Mykeal Terry was named the head coach and athletic director for the rest of the season following Stevens’ departure.

Then came Josh Cronkite as the head coach. His days as the head coach of the Chino Hills Huskies were short-lived. His time as a coach was affected greatly by COVID-19. He was with the team for five games in total before he was laid off by the school administrators. The team finished off the season with a record of 1-4. Fred Robledo, a local sports editor, defended Cronkite and said he should be given a chance in the regular season. He also claimed that the school has a rough history with the football coaches because of the sudden turnovers.

Cronkite was given up quickly, then came Terry again. This time, Terry made a comeback and was officially named the head football coach of the Huskies. The Huskies, hosting their first-ever Camp Chronicles, were on fire.

“The kids put a lot of passion, the kids put a lot of energy,” Coach Terry said. “I also love that the kids play with a lot of heart. So with that, I think we are gonna get a lot better, grow and just push forward.”

Under Terry’s counsel and direction, the team was looking forward to the CIF-SS high school football semifinals for the first time. They had been outshining other teams in the playoffs. The season ended on a good note with the coach satisfied with his team’s effort.

Under Terry’s supervision, the team played total of 12 games, tallying a record of 7-5. The season ended with a loss against Valencia Vikings 21-24. Terry saved the season and felt optimistic for the future.

Terry expressed his gratitude on Twitter for being a part of this team.

“So thankful for the opportunity to coach these young men,” he said. “Can’t wait to get back to work for next year!”

Coach Terry is definitely here to stay!
