Hayden Little League: An amateur team for the younger generation

HAYDEN, Idaho — The city of Hayden is not one of those places that have so many sporting activities going on weekly, most especially amateur. But there are a few amateur teams that have defeated the norms and are doing great in providing a good sporting environment for the younger generation. One such team is the Hayden Little League.

The team is an official chartered league of Little League Baseball, Incorporated. Little League Baseball Inc. is a non-profit organization that has helped encourage local volunteers to operate Little League programs. Whatever is obtainable in their affiliated body is exactly what you get from the Hayden Little League, as they follow all the rules and regulations of the mother body.

Unlike some teams that focus on developing big league players and making money, Hayden Little League’s main goal is to develop big league citizens. They want children to have fun while playing competitive baseball, so they encourage parents to cheer not just for their children, but for all players on the field.

Among other things, the club wants children to learn good sportsmanship, loyalty, courage, honesty and respect for authority while playing baseball. They want all the children to be winners and enjoy their baseball experience. Youth ages 4 to 14 can be part of the club’s baseball experience, regardless of their gender.

Volunteers primarily run the Hayden Little League. The president of the club is James Stenzel and the coaching coordinator is Chance Sampsel.

For many years, the league has recorded many successes, and these successes are mainly from volunteers. If not for the volunteers, many children from Hayden may not be exposed to baseball. The volunteers help organize games and provide skill development opportunities for local players.

In July of 2014, Hayden Little League and Kearny Little League renewed their tradition of competing against each other by playing a game every 4th of July. Every year it is an exciting game to watch.

Hayden Little League has done what many have not done, providing an enabling environment in an unexpected place where the younger generation can learn the game of baseball.
