No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter signs with Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. (BVM) — It is an ever-changing landscape in the college football world and that has been seen today. The No. 1 recruit in the county, Travis Hunter, has announced that he will be attending HBCU Jackson State.

Hunter attended Collins Hill High School and had an outstanding prep career. According to MaxPreps, he had 19 career interceptions, and 114 total tackles.

Legitimately CB1 and WR1 for the class of 2022. Makes everything he does look extremely easy,” Andrew Ivins wrote in a 247Sports scouting report. “At times it seems like he’s almost a human cheat code as he’s always making the highlight reel play at the right time. Video game numbers during prep career (over 3,600 receiving yards, 46 touchdowns catches and 19 interceptions) make him seem even more godly.”

Hunter can help an already impressive Jackson state team led by NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. The Tigers set a school record with 11 wins last season and captured their first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title since 2007.

With Hunter on his way to Jackson State, he’ll look to carry on the tradition of Jerry Rice, Doug Williams and Walter Payton. And with a coach like Sanders to learn from, Hunter can make the most of his opportunity at JSU.

“Sometimes we are called to step into a bigger future than one we imagined for ourselves,” Hunter said in a tweet on Wednesday. “For me, that future is at Jackson State University…And I can’t wait to welcome the next class of top athletes in the family of HBCU’s.”
