Concordia senior Gideon Cain earns his newest academic accolade

MEQUON, Wis. — Senior Gideon Cain from Concordia Wisconsin was awarded the honor of student athlete of the week by the NACC.

Gideon Cain, the product of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, is no stranger for being recognized for his well-rounded student image. He embodies all the NCAA has ever stood for; perpetuating an environment where athletes can succeed athletically and academically. This past week, Cain was chosen as the NACC student athlete of the week. This award marks the sixth time in Cains NCAA career that he has received this accolade. This stands as the only time this season he has earned it, but the season is very young.

Cain majors in Biomedical Studies outside the track, and he competes in throwing competitions for the Falcons. In their only meet so far at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Early Bird Invite, Cain was able to surpass his previously held school record for shot put event. His throw was marked at 16.07 meters which was more than enough for the Falcons to come in first. He also placed first in the weight throwing competition with a toss marked at 16.36 meters. Standing at a staggering 6’4, it is clear to see the true measurement of Gideon’s strength. The Falcons finished second overall at the Invite.

Gideon Cain’s success both on and off the track is far from a surprise from those that knew him growing up. He was named Valedictorian of his graduating class in 2018 at Living Word Lutheran. He also earned the title of Herb Kohl Scholar. During his high school career, Cain was not just the school track star. Gideon obtained All-conference honors in both Basketball and Football. He also shattered many records at his high school in track and field.

The Track and Field Falcons do not get to compete again in 2021. Their next scheduled meet is the Carthage Opener on January 15th at 11 AM CST. It is one of four meets Concordia is scheduled to partake in before the NACC Indoor Championships. These championships will be the first held since 2019 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Gideon Cain is still anticipating his first Track and Field Indoor Championship, and if he keeps up the record-breaking performances we’ve seen so far, he is a shoe-in to come home with that title later in February.
