Duncan Wilde is looking for his third championship with the Blue Devils
OAKVILLE, Ontario. – In recent years, soccer is a sport that has gained popularity in Canada, and Ontario is one of the places where passion has developed among fans. In Oakville, the Blue Devils are the city’s team and one of the most important in Ligue1 Ontario, a contest they have won with Duncan Wilde as manager. In 2022, they will seek glory and become the first organization to have three league trophies in the competition’s history.
Duncan Wilde is a highly respected man in Canadian soccer. He has over three decades of experience and has worked for multiple organizations. In 1988, he landed in Canada from his native England to immediately positively impact the development of the sport. For that reason, if anyone has driven the growth of soccer in Ontario, it’s Duncan Wilde, who in 1989 inaugurated the Premier Soccer Academy, the first registered academy in the region. Everything changed in the coach’s career born in Manchester from that moment.
Duncan Wilde’s story in soccer is extensive. He landed in Oakville in 2005, the year in which he began working for the Blue Devils. Led by the English coach, the Devils won the CPSL National Championship in the only season they participated.
After some time at the Toronto Lynx Academy, where he held various roles and eventually owned them with his friend Billy Steele, Duncan Wilde returned to Oakville in 2015 to be the head coach in the men’s Blue Devils’ first season in Ligue1 Ontario. That year, the organization was Inter-Provincial Champions, and the successes would continue to come.
With Billy Steele as League1 Reserves Men’s Head Coach and Duncan Wild as League1 Men’s Head Coach, since 2015, the Blue Devils have a successful couple. In 2017, the Oakville team won the League1 Ontario Championship, making the club the first-ever League1 club in history to earn a berth in the Canadian Championship.
Also, in 2017 and 2019, Duncan Wilde was named League1 Ontario Coach of the Year while still serving as the Head Coach of the Blue Devils Academy. In 2021, the Blue Devils lost the Championship Game against Guelp United. It was a painful defeat for the entire organization. In 2022, the challenge will be even more significant for Duncan Wilde, who will have to overcome what was done last year to achieve the goals set. Fans are eager for one more season to get the ball rolling across the pitches in Ontario.
