Plano’s Caleb Bergman to join Baylor baseball
PLANO, Texas — Plano East High School baseball star Caleb Bergman announced on National Signing Day that he will be playing college baseball at Baylor University. The decision is a dream come true for Bergman, as he has been looking forward to competing in Waco for years.
Bergman was named to an All-State team in his freshman year by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association. He eventually made his way to an All-District first team nod last year as a junior. He is coming off of a season in 2021 where the Panthers went 18-14.
Baylor was Bergman’s first choice for a school he wanted to attend. His parents both went to Baylor, plus his father was a pitcher at the school.
“It was always something that was part of me growing up,” Bergman said. “When they called and offered me a spot, it wasn’t much of a decision. It’s my dream school and where I’ve always wanted to go.”
Bergman says he is thankful for the support he has gotten from his family and teammates over the years.
“I wouldn’t be going to a college like this without all the support from my family and friends,” he said. “It’s awesome to have that kind of support and love.”
Bergman is an outfielder, but he has also performed at the second base and shortstop positions. He bats and throws right, and he has also played summer baseball with the Dallas Tigers 17U Polk junior team in the past few years.
He’ll be joining a Baylor Bears baseball program that has been highly competitive over the past few years. The Bears have reached the College World Series three times, with their most recent appearance being in 2005. The team has also been a regular contender in the NCAA Tournament in the last few years. The Bears play at Baylor Ballpark in Waco, a venue heralded as one of the country’s best college baseball ballparks.
Bergman is one of many athletes from Plano East to commit to college play on National Signing Day. Some of the other athletes at Plano East to commit include girls basketball players Donavia Hall and Kayla Cooper. Hall will be playing at SMU, while Cooper will play at Oklahoma. Others include soccer player Brooke Steinman, who committed to Ouachita Baptist, and swimmers Maguire Sheppard and Giovanni Linscheer, respectively going to Miami of Ohio and Florida.
