Westlake’s Cade Klubnik is Texas’ top high school football player
AUSTIN, Texas — Westlake High School quarterback Cade Klubnik has been one of the most talked about quarterback prospects in the country. The five-star quarterback has already committed to playing for Clemson, but he isn’t finished earning accolades for his high school performance. He has been named the 2021 Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year.
“This has been a dream of mine since I was little,” Klubnik said on Twitter.

Klubnik was honored for leading the Westlake Chaparrals to one of the best records in Texas football. The Chaparrals have a 13-0 record.
Klubnik has nearly 2,500 passing yards this season, plus he has 34 passing touchdowns and only two interceptions. He also has 362 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns from the ground. His performance has earned him a spot at the 2022 All-American Bowl.
Much of Klubnik’s work this past season was about preparing for playing at Clemson in 2022 and beyond.
“Just being able to work on all the fine details before I get to Clemson is going to be awesome,” he said.
He also performed at the Elite 11 quarterback camp this past year. The Elite 11 program is one of the most popular and high-level high school football camps in the country. He was named the MVP of his class at the camp this past year.
He has also been very successful off of the field. He has an A average in his classes at Westlake, plus he is a regular volunteer with the local Special Olympics organization.
Klubnik was one of the most in-demand quarterback prospects for the signing Class of 2022. He received offers from many of the country’s top college football programs, including Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan and Texas. But Clemson was the only school that he visited during his season.
There is potential for Klubnik to be the starting quarterback for the Clemson Tigers team. The Tigers and head coach Dabo Sweeney have been very competitive in the last few years, as the team consistently finishes at or near the top of the ACC each year and is often a contender for the college football playoff championship.
Klubnik also said that he plans on focusing on his football playing when he gets to Clemson. Although he has the option to take advantage of NIL rules in South Carolina, he doesn’t have much concern over making money off of his name, image, and likeness.
“It’s not something I need to force,” he said about NIL rights. “I feel like if I play really well at Clemson, it’ll happen.”
