Max Johnson transfers from LSU, joins brother at Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (BVM) — On Friday, former LSU Tiger Max Johnson announced that he would be transferring to SEC West foe: Texas A&M Aggies.

During the turbulent 2021 season, Johnson started in 11 of LSU’s 12 games. He completed 60.3% of his passes for 2,815 yards and 28 total touchdowns (27 passing, 1 rushing). Johnson played most the season following Myles Brennan’s season-ending arm surgery earlier in the fall. Last season, Johnson stepped in and started in the last two games for the Tigers. Most notably, he threw three touchdowns in the upset win against the Florida Gators.
Better opportunity?
Along with new scenery, Johnson will now be joining his brother, four-star tight end Jake Johnson. Ranked No. 110 in ESPN’s Top 300 for the Class of 2022, the addition of the Johnson brothers adds to an already impressive recruiting class for Jimbo Fisher. The Aggies currently have the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.
Max will most certainly be in line to start when the 2022 season rolls around. Zach Calzada, who started most of the 2021 season for the Aggies, entered the transfer portal earlier this week.
With NIL deals and the transfer portal, the college athletic world continues to undergo major changes. For major schools like Texas A&M, it is inevitable that great players may leave or join the program. The Johnson brothers joining A&M will most certainly help Fisher succeed in continuing his winning culture.
