Jacob Hodges brings positive energy to James River football
MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — In recent times, the University of Virginia football team produced a handful of coaches to high school football programs, such as Phillip Sims, Perry Jones, Brandon Jarvis, Matt Johns and Jacob Hodges. Hodges has officially accepted a position as head coach of the James River High School football team this year in July.
Hodges was born in July 1990. He went to Mountain View High School and then attended the University of Virginia (UVA). Before accepting the position at James River, Hodges was the offensive coordinator and math teacher at Atlee High School.
In 2008, he started his career as a student manager for Virginia Cavaliers. During this phase, he had built a profound reputation in his high school career. In 2010, when athletic department officials of UVA appointed new head coach Mike London, Hodges knew that he could learn more under coach Mike’s supervision. Thus, he joined the field, he was punctual and hardworking in the gridiron which earned him the position of the holder and an extra point in Virginia Cavilers. He played on the team from 2010 to 2012. From 2013 to 2014, he was an assistant coach of the Virginia Cavaliers football.
He played 37 games in which his contribution was vital for his team from 2010 to 2012. One of his prominent performances was against Maryland in 2010. He helped the Cavaliers score in crucial games and achieved much as a player in those two years.
After completing his objectives as a player, he then continued to pursue coaching on the gridiron.
“When I got to college, I walked on at UVA knowing that I wanted to become a coach,” Hodges said. “I approached Coach London and told him that was my goal and he did a lot to help mentor me as well as the other coaches on the staff.”
When Hodges joined James River as a head coach in July, his ultimate goal was to perform better in this year’s season.
“We’ve come together as a team and that’s the most important thing to start with,” he said. “From there, continue to get better offensively and defensively. Better understand our scheme and what we need to do. I think if we do that, we are going to have a good year.”
Hodges is ready to help win games for James River. According to him, his boys have a hunger for the win and his job is to work hard with them. The positive attitude he brings to the camp of the James River Rapids football program is unmatchable.
