Wausau West Warriors football finish the season with an 8-2 record

WAUSAU, Wis. — When the Warriors out of Wausau finished 7th in their respective district with the league record of 0-3, a season record of only one win and five losses and 183rd place in the state rankings of Wisconsin, it was pretty apparent that hope for a playoff run and a decent record was lost. However, the team honored their name as the Warriors and fought back on top of Wisconsin at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The group of players coached by Kevin Grunde, Jason Foster and Jason Sinz, showed immense depth, dominating character, powerful identity and great chemistry during the ten games of the previous season, which was the reason why they were able to overturn the 17% winning start to a 80% winning percentage in only one year.

A gradual and step-by-step long-term process of recovery was not the case for the Warriors, who managed to respond to every single doubter that counted them out when the 1-5 season record took place.

As a matter of fact, numerical analysis and evidence show that the Warriors asserted their dominance over most of the strong teams they were called to compete against, and they were far from being a lucky team with a surprising season.

Some of the best moments for the season came when they won their home conference game against Stevens Point with the score of 41-22, when they utterly dominated Appleton West with the score of 42-6, and finally, once they won at the away conference derby against Hortonville with the score of 30-22 and secured their spot in the playoffs.

Sports fan and analyst Chad Holmes shared his excitement about the win over Hortonville on Oct. 16 via his personal account on Twitter.

The Warriors didn’t get out of the first round of the playoffs, and they faced elimination after losing to the Neenah Rockets on Oct. 22 with a score of 29-7. Their dreams of winning everything in the WIAA division I tournament are still alive, and one could suppose that they are adding fuel to the fire of working harder this offseason and coming back stronger for the fall of 2022.

The whole team has to be praised for completing such a successful comeback this year, but one player that was a catalyst for the record of this season was Colton Geurink. On Dec. 17, the official Twitter account of Wausau West Athletics published a post congratulating the young football player for his accomplishment.

In his own personal Twitter account, Geurink posted about his excitement and success as well.

The Wausau West Warriors have shown that they have the mentality of a great team that possesses the potential to climb the ranks this upcoming year and fight for a top-30 spot in the Wisconsin rankings.
