Hutto HS senior Mia Torres follows family tradition of volleyball dominance

Hutto HS senior Mia Torres follows family tradition of volleyball dominance

HUTTO, Texas — Mia Torres is a senior at Hutto High School and has a passion for volleyball. Her older twin sisters, Alexandra and Amerika, started the volleyball trend and now both play at Texas Tech and the University of Texas, respectively.

Mia’s sister, Alexandra, has a bit of a miracle story. After walking on at UTEP, she sustained a season-ending knee injury.  During her recovery, she reached out to several schools and Texas Tech not only picked her up but supported her through her remaining recovery. One year later – much to everyone’s surprise – she is back on the floor as a defensive specialist for the Red Raiders.

Mia was asked about how it feels to follow in the footsteps of such great stories and great players.

“It’s all good,” she said. “Our family loves friendly competition. We actually love playing together and at the end of the day we are always encouraging each other.”

Mia takes nothing for granted and she works hard at her game. Like all student athletes, she spends hours practicing before and after school. There are repetitive drills and skill-building exercises. Its hard work. But, she loves the sport and her team.

“I really enjoy my teammates,” she said. “We really play well together, and it’s like my second family.”
