All eyes on Terrance McKinney who overcame traumatic past to break UFC record

SPOKANE, Wash. — Terrance McKinney is a 27 year old MMA fighter who recently just set the record for the fastest knockout in his weight class in UFC history. Born in Chicago but raised in Spokane, Terrance has seen the best and worst parts of the sports industry.

Before going pro Terrance suffered a traumatic event in 2015 when he overdosed on a mix of hard alcohol, acid, psychedelic mushrooms and experiencing what was later to be determined as excited delirium. He ran away from the party he was at and vandalized several cars before being pursued by police, and after a long stand off that consisted of him lying against a fence and being uncooperative he was tased multiple times and his heart stopped beating at two different times while on the way to the hospital.

In 2018 Terrance was a featured fighter on the UFC’s competition show ‘Contender Series’ and suffered his first knockout via a flying knee and losing out on a UFC contract. Following another loss he regrouped and made a lot of changes including switching gyms and is now on a four fight winning streak. In 2021 Terrance fought 4 months in a row consecutively, which is very unusual in MMA, and had only 8 days notice for his UFC debut when he set the world record for the lightweight division.

Terrance has since made amends with the Spokane police department, the community, and has become a peer counselor where he spends a lot of time working with the youth. T-Wrecks is currently preparing for his second UFC fight scheduled for February 26 in 2022 in Las Vegas.
