Get to know Cambridge HS basketball captain Owen Setterlind

MILTON, Ga. — This basketball season, Cambridge High School senior Owen Setterlind, is doing what he does best, MAKE IT RAIN! The shooting guard, known to teammates as Sett, has been hooping it up on the courts since fourth grade.

“The best advice I have received from a coach comes from my AAU coach, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” says Owen. “This really gave me confidence in many areas on my life and taught me to seize opportunity when it arrives.”

Born in Denver, Colorado and a huge fan of the Denver Nuggets, Owen started his high school basketball career at Milton High School before moving to Cambridge.

This year, he was named basketball captain for Cambridge. His junior year, Owen received the team’s Scholar Athlete award. His sophomore year, he played in the State Final Four for the Milton High School Varsity Basketball team, and his freshman year, served as Junior Varsity Captain for Milton Basketball.

Always working hard on and off the court, Owen is inspired by one of his favorite athletes, Jackie Robinson.

“He faced so much adversity and racism while playing, yet he had the courage to turn the other cheek and focus on what he could control,” says Owen. “That type of mentality, where no one can force a reaction out of you, is something I have always tried to incorporate into my life.”

With wisdom and drive beyond his years, Owen looks up to his dad as his mentor, as well as his biggest fan.

“He has always been in my corner and pushed me towards goals and for that, I will never be able to thank him enough,” says Owen.

When he’s not playing on courts, you can find Owen hanging out with his friends or playing guitar. His favorite restaurant is The Golden Coral, and he also enjoys pizza.

His pre-game ritual is simple, a power nap helps him feel energized and ready to go!

After high school, Owen aspires to graduate college with a degree in physics. On the courts and off, he draws inspiration from one of his favorite quotes.

“When you don’t have anybody else to complete your challenges, that is true freedom.”

“I always loved this quote because it makes me feel that I am in control of my life and if I work towards my dreams, I can achieve them,” says Owen.
