Washington Township Athletics named a recipient of the NATA Safe Sports School award

SEWELL, N.J. — Washington Township High School was recently named a recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Safe Sports School — First Team Award for its athletic program.

The award recognizes schools that have met recommended standards to prioritize keeping young athletes safe and improving safety in sports. The award additionally reinforces the importance of providing the best level of care, injury prevention, and treatment.

Superintendent of Schools Joe Bollendorf congratulated WTHS Athletics for its national recognition — including Director Kevin Murphy and athletic trainers Dr. Eric Schwartz and Stephanie Mroz Mosiondz — who “work tirelessly to promote and uphold the highest standards of athletic healthcare and provide a consistently safe and healthy environment” for the school’s 1,200-plus Minutemen/Minutemaid student-athletes, as well as coaches, support staff and spectators.

To achieve Safe Sports School status, WTHS:

  • Created a positive athletic healthcare administrative system
  • Coordinated pre-participation physical examinations
  • Promoted safe and appropriate practice and competition facilities
  • Planned for selection, fit function, and proper maintenance of athletic equipment
  • Provided a permanent, appropriately equipped area to evaluate and treat injuries
  • Developed injury and illness prevention strategies, including environmental condition protocols
  • Facilitated injury intervention
  • Created and rehearsed a venue-specific Emergency Action Plan
  • Facilitated psychosocial consultation and nutritional counseling and education
  • Ensured athletes and parents are educated about sports’ potential benefits, risks and responsibilities

“We have an exceptional team who is most deserving of this recognition,” Bollendorf added.

This marks the third such recognition for the WTHS athletic program. For more information, visit www.nata.org.
