Sometimes all you need is a change

PURCELLVILLE, Va. — I started playing football when I was 7. I started with flag football and stayed in the ULYFL all the way from flag up to A league which takes you all the way to high school football. Football has been my biggest love my entire life, but i found that high school football just wasn’t my sport anymore.

In my sophomore season I decided it would be best for me to stop playing football and my dad got me into lacrosse. Going into lacrosse was possibly the best choice I made in high school. Immediately the head coach saw that I had never played before but he saw that I had potential and took me under his wing to try to help me become the best that I can. He left after my first season to pursue something that was best for him and the new head coach was another coach that does what he can to bring the best out of all of his players.

In my junior year I switched from attack to goalie when the team struggled with goalie issues and both of my coaches made me better than I could’ve ever imagine me playing in net. After waiting my entire senior year for the spring season, where I got to spend the rest of the year in my favorite environment, I suffered an injury in my first scrimmage, that held me out of my second game which would be the last ever game I played in high school.

My school year came to an end on March 12, 2020 as Covid came to a point that the state thought it was safer to stay home and stop all sports. Though I didn’t get my final season, my coaches left an impact on me to do the best I can and to take my game to the highest I can. I now play hockey in an adult league and run a podcast with a friend called Brotherly Love in the District, talking about Philadelphia and Washington sports, and intern with the Purcellville Cannons where I run a podcast about the team. If you’re ever doubting something, trust your gut. It may not seem right at that moment, but in the long run it will work out.
