Rocco Becht will continue his football career at Iowa State

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Rocco Becht established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the state of Florida during his time at Wiregrass Ranch High School. His efforts have earned him a scholarship to Iowa State University, as he verbally committed April 9 and officially signed his National Letter of Intent on Dec. 15, according to his Instagram.

Becht put up some impressive numbers in his last season with the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls football program. According to the website Max Preps, the righty quarterback tossed out 23 touchdowns while only surrendering six interceptions and accumulating 1,808 total passing yards, which earned him first team All-Pasco County honors.

On top of his solid senior campaign, his career numbers are remarkable as well. Dating back to his first year on varsity as a sophomore, Becht has accumulated 62 passing yards compared to just 21 interceptions along with 5,343 total yards in 29 career games.

For his efforts during his high school career, Becht has been named a “high three-star” prospect, according to 247sports.com. A “high three-star” prospect is described by the recruiting website as “a player with significant NFL upside who expects to be an impact college football player.”

Becht is the 540th best college recruit in the nation, the 72nd best out of Florida and the 33rd best quarterback prospect in the country, according to 24/7 Sports composite ratings.

Becht has decided to take his talents to Ames, Iowa, where he will be an Iowa State Cyclone. He received offers from 14 other Division I programs, most notably Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Southern Mississippi and Toledo, according to a highlight on his Instagram page.

Although the Wiregrass football program only managed to go 5-5 (1-3 in 7A District 10 play) in the 2021 season, Becht still had some high-level teammates that helped him win five contests. The most highly sought prospect of his teammates being Bryson Rodgers, a junior wide receiver who caught 14 of Becht’s 23 passing touchdowns in 2021.

The highly touted four-star recruit and first team All-Pasco County wideout was ranked the 295th best prospect in the 2023 graduating class, according to 24/7 Sports. Rodgers has received offers from an impressive list of Division I football programs such as Pittsburgh, Penn State, Ole Miss, Florida State, Louisville, Florida, South Carolina and Miami, according to a highlight on his Instagram page. He also received an offer to join Becht at Iowa State.

Becht also got major help from two senior offensive linemen, Cristian Loaiza and Logan Ridolph. Not only did these two players earn first team All-Pasco County recognition, both have also received offers to be preferred walk-on players this fall at Marshall University, according to their twitter accounts.

Becht’s father is Anthony Becht, who played football at West Virginia University as a tight end and was drafted 27th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft to the New York Jets. He played 11 seasons in the NFL with the Jets, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the St. Louis Rams, the Arizona Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Becht’s college career at Iowa State will begin on Sept. 3 when Southeast Missouri comes to Ames, Iowa.
