Cam Akers is ready to dominate again for the L.A. Rams

LOS ANGELES (BVM) – L.A. Rams running back Cam Akers had a great rookie year last season and missed most of the 2021-2022 season with a ruptured achilles but had an excellent game against the Arizona Cardinals in the Wild Card game.

In that Wild Card game against the Arizona Cardinals, Cam Akers had 17 rushing attempts for 55 yards and one reception for 40 yards as well.

During the press conference after the Rams victory against the Cardinals, Akers was ecstatic when talking about being back on the field.

“Just blessed man, you know um, being able to come off an injury like that you know, 5 months, 5 and a half months after surgery,” Akers said during his postgame press conference after the Wild Card victory, “you know um, nobody’s done it so you know, just to be able to um, be in that category, the first person to do that. It’s a blessing.”

The reason that Akers was thrilled was because he came back earlier than expected.

On July 20, 2021, a week before training camp started, Akers ruptured his achilles while working out outside of the Rams’ team facility. He was likely to miss the entire 2021-2022 NFL season. The reason that the ruptured achilles was so devastating was because he was expected to build off of his production from his rookie year.

In his rookie year, Akers was fantastic during the regular season racking up 625 yards rushing, two rushing touchdowns, 123 yards receiving, and one touchdown reception.

Akers was also incredible at Florida State as well. He did a great job in their running and receiving game during his time there. Akers played for three seasons and near the end of his third year, he would forgo the Sun Bowl to enter the 2020 NFL Draft. He would be picked in the second round with the 52nd pick in the draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

Versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Akers did quite well. He had 24 carries for 48 yards rushing against the Buccaneers and averaged two yards per carry. Akers also had three receptions for 20 yards and averaged 6.7 yards per catch in that game against Tampa Bay as well.

Even with his two fumbles against Tampa Bay, Sean McVay still trusts Akers to carry the ball.
The Rams will need Akers to do just that in their NFC Championship matchup against the 49ers.
